About Us

The goal of the LUSD Food Service Department is to provide high quality, attractive, nutritious meals to all students within the program.

Approximately 1,800 lunches are served each day to students in our program.

Food Service serves all seven schools in the Loomis Union School District.

LUSD Food Services sources and utilizes local and organic produce, and whole grain offerings, where possible.

Breakfast is served to the students during their first break/recess.

All parents are encouraged to complete the Application for Meals to maximize state funding for LUSD schools.

One application per household.  LINK to application

  • Please complete the Application for Free and Reduced Meals provided below.  Only complete one application per family.  This information may be used for state or federally funded school benefits.

Factors considered in the application process are household size and total household income. HOUSEHOLD SIZE is considered all persons, related or unrelated: Including parents, children, foster children, grandparents who live in your home and share living expenses.  The TOTAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME is the income each household member received last month before taxes – this includes wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare, child support, alimony, and any other cash income.

Every student who is under a certain income, learning English, or in foster care generates 20% more funding. The dollars generated by these students are spent to increase or improve services for low-income students, English learners and foster youth.  In order to continue to maximize our services it is important to fill out the Application for free and reduced meals form to ensure our schools and families continue receiving the available resources.

Please take a moment to complete and sign the attached confidential Application for Meals Form and drop off at your school office.

  • Funding & Menu Pricing

LUSD Food Service Program is a fiscally sound program within the district. It operates on a $550,000 budget and is expected to maintain a positive fund balance and to contribute to the general fund to recover indirect costs such as utilities and support staff, along with other expenses incurred in the maintenance of the program and its equipment. LUSD & the Food Sevice Department is consistently looks for innovative ways to increase cost effectiveness and to optimize purchasing power.

    • Research has shown that there is a crucial relationship between nutrition and health, as well as between nutrition and learning. LUSD Food Service Department participates in the USDA’s National School Lunch, Summer Food Service and Commodity Distribution Programs. USDA regulations guide our programs. Monthly menus are planned to meet the USDA specifications based on the Dietary Guideline for Americans. Meals are to be low in fat, sodium and sugar, but provide sufficient calories to meet needs of growing children.

Monthly lunch menus are posted in Parent Square by our food service department. Check back regularly to see what lunch options are available.  Please note that unfortunately, there are times when the current food supply shortages and product unavailability may result in a change to the lunch menu on short notice.

We will continue to make our best efforts to serve our students the items that are identified on the school lunch menu or, if necessary, to provide them with a similar alternative.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with our distributors to navigate through the shortages.
